Fashion and Nature

Nature is the home to some breathtaking landscapes and thousands of animals. However, the delicate balance between nature and man-made cities and buildings can threaten the incredible beauty that nature provides us. The unique thing about nature is that its beauty is entirely natural. Humans do not need to tamper with or try to enhance it, as it is already perfect in its own way.

Observing nature's ability to thrive without human intervention highlights the importance of learning to coexist with it rather than attempting to damage it. Although fashion and nature may seem unrelated at first glance, there is a connection between the two. At a fundamental level, the materials used in fashion are often gathered from nature, such as cotton and bamboo, or recycled fabrics that help keep the environment safe from harm.

The negative impact that fashion has had on nature is something that cannot be ignored. Carelessly discarded old clothes have contributed to damaging landfills, and this has caused fashion brands to rethink their ethical standards when making and selling clothes. This applies to both big-name brands and smaller ones. Practising ethical consumption means that businesses pay workers a fair wage and protect the local animals where they are sourcing their resources. Keeping up with sustainable practices like this is essential for maintaining a safe environment for animals and allowing humans to continue creating new and inspiring fashion.

The beauty of clothes, in my opinion, should be enhanced with natural surroundings that do not damage one another. My most recent project reflects this as I have chosen to photograph a white dress, which I found to be symbolic of being natural and traditionally seen as pure. I chose this as I intended to highlight the importance of preserving nature in its purest form, free from human interference.
