Tim Walker

Tim Walker is a renowned British fashion photographer known for his intense, whimsical, and surreal photography style. Walker was born in England in 1970, and his work is celebrated by his dreamlike aesthetic and elaborate set designs. Walker has said that he gets his inspiration from a mixture of his own imagination and fairy tales. This is very evident when researching his work. Walker's career began in the late 1990’s when he started working as a freelance photographer for British Vogue. Since then, he has become one of the most sought-after fashion photographers in the industry, collaborating with top fashion designers, models, and magazines worldwide.

Walker's work looks into the world of fantasy and magic, where he creates unreal settings and invents fascinating characters to photograph. Using bold colours to capture the viewer's eye, Walker can have the most tiny detail in a sea of colour and busy sets. I believe this has made him a very memorable photographer.

Walker's work allows for narrative storytelling as he always makes the most advantageous sets; Walker often said that he likes to shoot in these fantastic sets, as it feels like he is living between fantasy and reality. The beauty of this is that the viewer can interpret the story to their perception, either choosing their narrative or looking towards Walker's ideas. Throughout Walker's growing career, he has had the privilege of working with lots of big names, such as celebrities like Harry Styles and high-end designers like Vivienne Westwood.

I first saw Tim Walker's work in my first year at college studying photography; I was trying to find inspiration for a project I was working on. When I saw Walker's work, I knew I have hooked right away. Walker's narratives and amazing brain have been inspiring me ever since; after buying his books and studying his online interviews talking about his experiences in the photography world, I have only ever wanted to hear more from him. There is no denying that Walker's work will always have some impression on me; I feel as if I can not create an image without feeling his input. For example, in my most recent project, Fashion on Film, I noticed that I had been subconsciously creating a fancy-like narrative within my series of images. Although this was not necessarily planned, I can't help but thank my years of Walker's work having impacted all my projects.

Walker's approach to work and unique mindset have made him one of the most respected names in the industry. Walker's work continues to inspire and get the attention of the audience.
