Vogue
While on the journey of my recent project, Fashion on Film, obviously, one of the first places I ended up was looking at fashion magazines. The fashion magazine that cannot be ignored is Vogue. Vogue is one of the most influential famous magazines in the world. Founded in the USA in 1892 by Arthur Turnure, it has become iconic and timeless, telling us stories and secrets of fashion and beauty. Vogue has been with me since I was a little girl; it has made me study fashion and photography for over a decade.
There is no denying Vouge's fame with its global domination, with numerous editions spread worldwide, such as Vogue Paris, Vogue Japan, and Vogue China, each with its advice columns and beauty tips for each culture. Celebrates have often made remarks about finally 'making it' when they get photographed in Vouge or even lucky enough to be on the front cover.
Vogue, for me, was all about fashion; with its editorials and top models' features, I always felt like it was a 'collect them all' of all my favourites on the front covers. The magazine has always displayed the most recent trends in clothing, skincare, beauty and lifestyle. For me, this always felt like it was to be followed and taken as law rather than something light-hearted to read; the effect vouge has had on me throughout the years is undeniable, especially when viewing my work. No matter how hard I tried to veer off to different photography forms, I always landed back in Fashion photography.
Vogue is essential as its role in curating new fashion trends is the lifeline of anyone interested in fashion. Vogue often explores the world of art, travel, mental health and even social issues. Moving away from what people think is the stereotypical fashion magazine outline of dating tips and mini skirts. Nowadays, Vouge is well-rounded and has knowledge of the world in many different aspects. With the world slowly moving more and more digital by the day, the Vouges website has grown over the recent years to keep up with the new world. However, there seems to be an irreplaceable feeling when buying a physical magazine. Seeing Vouge growth has been very inspiring for my work as I feel as if it can continue to expand and keep its legacy continuing to push its boundaries, improving the views on fashion every day as nowhere can compete with its knowledge on fashion and what it means to pick up and read a Vouge.
